I first ran across Makeda's name in Melissa Fay Greene's book "There is No Me Without You". It felt right, immediately. I held onto it, shared it with a few people, but didn't commit until I'd seen her dear face and knew without a doubt that this was her name. There were a few others I kept tucked away, one of which in particular really resonated with me. While the name was beautiful, it was the translation that really stole my heart. Since Makeda has two middle names, you might think that I saved this name as her middle name. But I didn't. I never had a doubt that this second name belonged to a separate soul - one that I had yet to be joined with.
So, here starts my next adventure. The first of the forms has been filed and I've officially begun my journey to Baby A. This will be a longer journey, probably closer to two years. Which I guess makes me an elephant. But at the end - a beautiful baby girl - Makeda's little sister.

How exciting!!! Congratulations on this first step!
Wow! What great news! I'm so excited for you! Congratulations! You're a little braver than me, my dear! May your journey to your daughter be joyful and smooth.
Congratulations! I am full of hope that the changes in Ethiopia with MOWA does not extend your journey any longer. If not, maybe we'll be picking up our kids at the same time. Hugs!
Can I ask why this journey will be closer to 2 years? As someone just beginning this process for the first time, I'm curious about timelines.
All the best to you and your daughter(s)!
What amazing news - congratulations!
wow wow wow. this is amazing. I'm still gun-shy on starting #2, and want to be 100% sure I can manage it before I dive in. Although with the new restrictions in place it would take me a while anyway!
Congratulations, you are on your way!
Wow! Congratulations!
Hi JM, a couple of reasons for the timeframe. Firstly, the entire process last time took 17 months. Arguably that could be shorter this time since the homestudy won't take quite as long. However, the time that my file will rest in Ethiopia before I get a referral, will be longer than last time, and those timeframes are constantly increasing as time goes by. So, when I inquired in July, it looked like from the time my file landed at Imagine, to the time I travelled, would take about 12 months. I've no doubt that's longer now, and I expect it to continue to get longer. Lastly, I'm not going to start my homestudy update or start processing additional paper until February or so. So, taking all that into account, I'm guessing about 2 years from now.
Really, that's fantastic! I am already excited for you!
Congratulations! I am totally excited about having a second "niece"!
I am thrilled for you and Makeda. I never tire of hearing of people adopting a second, third, etc., time - especially single women. Who knows how things will change in the coming months - let's hope it's all for the good. I'm going right this minute to pour a glass of wine in your honour & in hopes of a swift and painless journey.
Cheers!
Go, go, Gadget!!!!
That's some lovely news!
I got goosebumps, Barb, just reading the blog today. Can't wait to see where this journey takes you.
